2013 Camp Descriptions

Bear Creek (June 9-15): Bear Creek is located 7 miles outside of Marianna, Arkansas on a small, but beautiful lake. The camp is one mile off Hwy 45 on a gated dirt road maintained by the Forestry Department. Bear Creek is a rustic camp with eight air conditioned cabins, two new non-air conditioned shower buildings (bring shower shoes), an outdoor chapel area and an air conditioned chow hall. A large fire ring, small fishing dock, prayer benches overlooking the lake, and combination volleyball & basketball court complete the facilities at Bear Creek. As with any outdoor camp on a lake in Southern Arkansas, you will want to bring your bug spray.

Cabot UMC (July 14-20): Cabot “church camp” is located in Central Arkansas, 25 miles NE of Little Rock.  OMP will be held in the Adult/Youth Education Building. Campers will sleep in air conditioned Sunday school classrooms and will shower at church family host homes, so remember to bring an air mattress and shower caddy. There is a lot of indoor/outdoor space for activities and a great new area to worship together in.  Jobsites will be located in Cabot, Lonoke, Beebe and surrounding communities.

Cornerstone UMC (July 14-18): A “church camp” located in Jonesboro, Cornerstone is a growing church that has ample room for games inside and out, plus worship in the “Cloud room”.  Campers will be sleeping in Sunday school classrooms and will shower at host houses, so bring an air mattress and some type of shower caddy. Campers will work in Jonesboro and surrounding areas like Pocahontas and Harrisburg.  This is a Middle School camp.

FUMC Camden (July 14-20): An ideal location for an OMP camp, Camden and its surrounding communities in south Arkansas have been hard hit for the last 20 years by repeated plant closings, job losses, and population decline. The Great Hall will provide air conditioned space for dining and recreation.  Campers will sleep in Sunday school rooms and shower at homes of church members.  Each camper will need an air mattress or cot and a backpack or shower caddy. Campers may need blankets and long sleeves, as the air conditioning is quite cool.   

FUMC El Dorado (July 14-20): This church family is excited about another opportunity to host an OMP camp.  Church members will surround campers with prayer and support and provide some awesome meals.  The church has ample room for activities and worship in its air conditioned Family Life Center and Student Ministry Loft.  Campers will sleep in Sunday school rooms and will shower at a local health facility.  Each camper will need an air mattress or cot and a backpack or shower caddy. Campers will work in El Dorado and surrounding rural communities.

FUMC Maumelle (June 23-29): Located between the North Little Rock area and Conway, this is Maumelle’s inaugural year.  Air mattresses are a must for the sleeping arrangements within the church.  Showers are provided through the use of shower houses. Activities will be held within and around the church. The surrounding metropolitan area also offers diversity unique to the area making the OMP experience at this camp unique in many different areas.  OMP at FUMC of Maumelle will be an exciting experience for campers and drivers serving our neighbors in the area.

FUMC Siloam Springs (June 23-29): FUMC Siloam Springs is excited OMP is returning this year.  As the only camp in Northwest Arkansas, it is an exciting opportunity to share the OMP experience with a new community.  Nestled in historic downtown Siloam Springs, the church is in a safe and convenient location.  A large fellowship hall will provide plenty of space to hold activities.  Campers will sleep in Sunday school rooms or the youth room so, each will need an air mattress and sleeping bag.  Church members will provide shower houses so; campers will need a shower caddy or bag.  Jobsites will be in Siloam Springs and the surrounding communities.

FUMC West Memphis (June-9-15): West Memphis is a unique experience held at the First United Methodist Church. Air mattresses and blankets are a must for the sleeping arrangements. Seriously the A/C is always ON. Activities are often held in the indoor comfort of air conditioning. Since the church is without shower facilities, church members graciously volunteer their homes as “shower houses” for the week, so campers will need a shower caddy or backpack. Jobsites are within just a few blocks of one another, so college and volunteer staff members are able to spend the majority of the time with campers on the jobsites.

Grand Avenue Hot Springs UMC (june 23-29): Located at the corner of Quapaw and West Grand Avenue, and has served Garland County Methodists since 1926.  They look forward to hosting OMP and will surround the campers with prayer and support.  Campers will sleep in Sunday school rooms and shower at homes of church members.  Each camper will need an air mattress or cot and a backpack or shower caddy.  Sleeping bags or blanket will also be needed.  OMP work area will be in Garland County.

Lakewood UMC (June 9-15): Located in the North Little Rock area, this “church camp” was added in 2007. Air mattresses are a must for the sleeping arrangements, and showers are provided within the church facility or with shower houses. Activities will be held in the indoor comfort of air conditioning as well as the surrounding church grounds. The metropolitan area also affords unique access to many events and special locations for our camper’s evening activities.  OMP at Lakewood UMC will be an exciting experience for campers and drivers serving our neighbors in the North Little Rock area!

Shoal Creek (June 9-13): As a longtime location for OMP camp, Shoal Creek has many things to offer for campers. Located near Clarksville across the long Arkansas River Bridge to the south, this camp has an air conditioned dining hall, swimming pool, and a great field for ultimate Frisbee. Though the cabins are not air conditioned, they have screened windows lining all sides that allow for a steady cool breeze to pass through. The shower houses are located next to each boys’ and girls’ cabin. Campers will serve the communities of New Blaine, Paris, Clarksville and other surrounding areas.  This is a Middle School camp.

Winfield UMC (June 23-29): Nestled in the trees on the outskirts of busy west Little Rock, Winfield United Methodist Church is the best of worlds, a quiet and peaceful setting but still only two blocks from a Wal-Mart.  Winfield offers a full size gym, large fellowship hall and plenty of rooms to spread out for sleeping.  Campers will need sleeping bags and a shower caddy.  The church family will shower you with prayer and support during your stay.  Campers will be working in rural Pulaski and Perry counties
