Paint
It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for a home! When a Neighbor steps outside to inspect his or her newly-painted home, there is nothing that can compare to seeing pride and pleasure appear on his or her face. Every summer, OMP Campers paint approximately 85 homes across the state of Arkansas, and use about 500 gallons of paint per camp season.Celebrate OMP’s years of service or honor a loved one with paint to freshen up a Neighbor’s home.
Cleaning Kit
Many Neighbors OMP Campers work for live in homes that OMP cannot paint. For these Neighbors, often a little elbow grease will get these homes looking new again. For relatively little cost, a cleaning kit will go a long way to brighten a Neighbor’s day. A kit will include 2 bottles of cleaning solution or bleach ($10), two scrub brushes ($10) and plastic sprayer ($10).
Steps
Many Neighbors have serious concerns about entering or exiting their homes because of the precarious condition of their steps. Part of OMP’s mission is to make Neighbors more comfortable and secure in their homes.Although each project must be assessed individually, most OMP steps consist of three or four steps. OMP Campers will build steps at every camp during the summer.
Porches
Another project that many OMP Campers complete is building a porch. Often, porches are built in conjunction with a set of steps or a wheelchair ramp. A porch is a satisfying job to undertake at an OMP camp because it is challenging work that campers generally enjoy, as well as a dramatic finished product that typically excites Neighbors.Like steps and wheelchair ramps, porches are scrutinized individually by our staff and volunteers, but generally fall into one of three categories: small, medium or large.
Wheelchair Ramps
One of the projects that gets many Campers excited is building a wheelchair ramp. However, at the beginning of the project, many Campers don’t realize that a wheelchair ramp can literally change the life of a Neighbor. For some Neighbors who don’t have the ability to leave their homes, a wheelchair ramp can provide them access to their friends, neighbors and community.Wheelchair ramps built at OMP vary in length and none are exactly the same. However, wheelchair ramps are usually built in 8’ sections with a landing in between each section.
Needed Items
In 2007, OMP launched three tool trailers. Stocked with most items each Family Group will need to complete a project, tool trailers have made community tools a thing of the past. Many of the tools residing in the trailers were donated from churches who would no longer need their community tools and from other friends of OMP.However, a lot of wear and tear has been made on these tools and some items are in need of replacing.
OMP also hopes to add a fourth tool trailer to increase the number of communities served each summer.
To mark OMP’s anniversary, consider donating tools to OMP’s tool trailers in honor of a loved one, youth group, graduating class or mission team who loves and is dedicated to OMP.
Tuition
Beginning in 2007, OMP has organized annual college-aged mission trips to Rio Bravo, Mexico and New Orleans, LA, in addition to our middle and high school camps each summer. Regardless of the experience, each student is responsible for their own tuition for these missions.Consider sponsoring a college student for an eye-opening mission experience or a middle or high school camper for week of service.
