By the end of each summer the landscape of Arkansas will be drastically altered. Freshly painted houses, new wheelchair ramps, and sturdy refurbished porches will be seen at the homes of some five hundred families across the state. OMP will have made an amazing difference in the lives of hundreds of Neighbors and many campers will have had life changing experiences along the way. The OMP ministry could not happen if it were not for nearly 250 volunteers serving in twelve summer camps. The bulk of these volunteers are adult campers who accompany youth from local churches. These adults give up precious time from work and families in order to drive, mentor, befriend, encourage, and be a Christian influence upon the lives of young people.

Another important group of volunteers are those that act as volunteer staff at each camp. It is true that OMP relies heavily on a very capable group of employed college students, but the talent and leadership of adult volunteers are vital as well. These volunteers serve as cooks, tool coordinators, construction coordinators, program directors, camp directors, and “runners.” Obviously, volunteers are the backbone of OMP. OMP could not function without the many that make personal sacrifices for the good of God’s kingdom and other people. On behalf of OMP Steering Committee, which is also a volunteer group, thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of our volunteers. Know that you are appreciated and valued.

More and new volunteers are always needed. The most difficult task the local church youth leader often has in preparing for an OMP camp is finding enough volunteer adult campers. But it’s worth the effort, because volunteers make the most difference. Don’t ever be intimidated by the opportunity to volunteer. Just because you perceive yourself as not “good with kids” or an accomplished carpenter don’t think that OMP can’t use you. There is always a place to do God’s work and, besides, many volunteers find that they can do more than they thought possible. God has an amazing way of leading to such discoveries. Won’t you consider joining us?

Please note that all OMP volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school.  All OMP volunteers are also subject to background checks and required to complete OMP’s Safe Sanctuary training.
